My Research

This research was related to the protection and sharing of semantically-enabled electronic laboratory notebook (ELN, i.e. Semantic Metadata) in a distributed co-laboratory research environment. The ELN enables the modeller to record the provenance (metadata) electronically (in RDF Triples) from its creation to the final curation. I worked on a novel ELN DRBAC (Dynamic Role Based Access Control) mechanism that applied on different scenarios which were developed with the close co-ordination of the atmospheric chemistry community, working on the EUROCHAMP-2 project. This project involves fourteen environment chambers across the Europe. The scientific goal of this community is to better understand the chemical processes controlling air quality and climate through the use of an integrated network of atmospheric simulation chambers.

Research Focus
  • Critical Data Analysis (focusing at): Semantic metadata, provenance, electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs), distributed environment, data protection and sharing, access control mechanisms, dynamic role based access control (DRBAC), cloud computing environment and EUROCHAMP-2 project.
  • Design and Development (of): Scenario cases and dynamic role based access control mechanism for protection and sharing of modelling process data (RDF Triples) in a distributed environment.
  • Proposed model of ELN in a service environment.
  • Implementation and Evaluation (qualitative and quantitative) of enhanced access control mechanism and analysis of end results.
  • Tools used: Oracle, MySQL, PhP, Java, SPARQL, Protégé (ontology editor)
